I take Ayurvedic and need to gain weight. What should eat?

Published on

I was diagnosed with high levels of sugar in April 20-16. Fasting blood glucose, 334 & postprandial, 460. The symptoms were frequent urination, hunger, and mainly losing weight. I was prescribed metformin and glimepride. After almost two months, I stopped taking these medicines and started Ayurvedic medicine. I am on diabetic diet and exercising daily. My sugar level is under control (fasting blood glucose, 80 & postprandial, 110) but I have become underweight now and I am able to increase the weight. Please advise me how to increase the weight and what to eat, considering the diabetes.

I'm very glad to hear that your blood sugar levels have dramatically improved. However, you do need to follow up with your doctor for lab work to monitor other important health markers. In addition, your inability to gain back the weight you lost is concerning, given that you are now underweight. On a healthy diet, you should avoid sugar and processed carbs, but you should be getting enough calories to maintain your weight by eating other foods, such as meat, seafood, eggs, beans, nuts, and vegetables. If you're eating plenty of food yet can't gain any back, there may be a medical reason. I recommend contacting your doctor as soon as possible to schedule an appointment.
