After a recent endoscopy, my recently controlled blood sugar numbers shot up 100 points. Could there be a link between putting sugar saline in my blood and my high numbers?

I am type 2 but I had controlled my levels well between 130 – 155. After a recent endoscopy for an unrelated medical issue, during which they administered saline with sugar IV, my levels have shot up about 100 points—around the 230’s and 240’s. I work out on the elliptical an hour a day, (in 20 minute increments) and I am wondering if there is a link between the sugar saline going directly into my blood and losing control of my numbers. If so, I can avoid this demoralizing dilemma for my next procedure. Thank you!

The  IV dextrose (sugar) may indeed have contributed to higher blood glucose levels during and after your hospitalization. However, if you continue eating healthfully and exercising as you did before the procedure, your blood sugar control should improve fairly quickly. For the future, make sure to request an IV without dextrose.
