Like table sugar, honey is a carbohydrate that will directly affect your blood sugar.
One tablespoon of honey provides 17 grams of carbohydrate, which is even more than the 15 grams of carbohydrate contained in one tablespoon of sugar. Along with maple syrup, agave, and other “natural” forms of sugar, it is best to avoid honey or use it very sparingly and check your blood sugar after consuming it. As with all carbohydrates, absorption is individual and is affected by other foods eaten at the same time.
