POPS! Diabetes Care received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance of their POPS!® one Blood Glucose Monitoring System yesterday.
The POPS! one System is a new digital diabetes management system that works with any smartphone. The device synchronizes data to a mobile application using Bluetooth.
The device’s smart app uses AI technology to observe the user’s behavior and adapts reminders, tips, encouragements, and rewards, to enhance a user’s behavior.
“POPS! believes in virtual care through the phone with no judgment,” Lonny Stormo, CEO of POPS! Diabetes Care tells dLife.
Users also have the choice to share their data with physicians, family members, and friends, including real-time notifications, Stormo explains.
“We are thrilled to have successfully worked with the FDA to clear this novel solution for people with diabetes,” says Stormo, “POPS! helps liberate those with diabetes by making life easier through empowering them and their families.”
Stormo indicates the POPS! system is more than just another glucose monitoring device.
He says POPS! transforms healthcare for those with diabetes by offering a comprehensive digital health platform designed to lower A1C count.
“The system is designed for type 1’s who just received their diagnosis, for type 2’s that have found success with oral medication, and for those who transition from medication to medication,” Stormo tells dLife.
The device comes with an adhesive so it can attach to the back of a user’s phone, adding to the convenience factor of the new product.
The FDA clearance means the company can begin their journey to bring their product to market, which is slated for early in 2019.
