Would deep vein thrombosis affect how I deal with my diabetes?

Published on December 8, 2017

I am type 2, and have symptoms that match—as has been suggested by a previous doctor—deep vein thrombosis. However, doctors have not been able to definitely confirm DVT. How would DVT affect how I deal with my type 2, if at all?

Although people with type 2 diabetes are at increased risk for developing DVT, diabetes treatment goals should remain the same in those with both conditions. Keeping blood sugar as well controlled as possible should remain a top priority, but if you indeed have DVT, anti-coagulation (anti-clotting) medication may be necessary as well.
