Last week I was attending a 3 day Leadership Training course at a facility outside of Las Vegas. All 30 of the attendees were strangers to one another and all from different industries from all over the country! I was very nervous about how I was going to do after finding out so many of these people were owners, vice presidents, and upper management for their companies. I was not sure how I would hold up around all these professionals!
We got our room assignments and I knew we would be staying in small dorm rooms. They were more like hotel rooms with 2 bunk beds in them. I was lucky enough to get a bottom bunk so my night time visits to the rest room would not wake up my bunk partner as much as jumping down and climbing back up would have. (READ MORE)

Have you seen the new Animas pink pump? Oh man, Olivia saw that on the Children With Diabetes website and just about lost her mind. "MUM!!! LOOOOOOOK!!!! A pink pump!!! When is my warranty up with MiniMed?"

Kudos to Animas for appealing to the girly-girl market. Even though Olivia's not particularly girly, it seems that as soon as she turned 13, pink was in. Although, looking at the fine print on the site, it's a limited edition. O's pump warranty isn't up for another year, so she probably will not be getting that. Bummer. Hopefully this is a trend that continues, though, with all the pump companies. If you have to be attached to a machine, it might as well be a machine that looks cool.

It's strange sometimes how the tide can shift so quickly. Where I was this time last week is not where I am today. I've gone from thinking my endo was off his rocker to even consider me as a candidate for the pump, to going full-tilt toward pump therapy.
When B. first told me about MiniMed's pump with the integrated CGMS I really poo-pooed the idea, telling him that although I have high and low swings, I didn't feel like I was "bad enough" to warrant having a CGMS. I pay attention to my body, I test when I'm feeling low, etc. (It's that "I'm 'only' type 2" mentality.) (READ MORE)

Olivia uses a Minimed Paradigm pump - the 715 model. We have had no issues with it (knock wood, turn around three times, go outside and spit). I think I've called the help line once in the last three years.

She uses the Silhouette infusion sites. The angled cannula seems to be better for her. The sites that go straight in would bend and crimp. That's not to say she hasn't had the occasional problem with the Sils, but for the most part, they've been fine.

The last 10 or so site changes, though, have been different. The needle that plunges the cannula into her body (bleurgh) is bending. Really bending, like at a 90 degree angle. And it hurts a lot.
